Hello, Vacation! You’re ready to kick back and relax. While the thought of a summer vacation is exciting, deep down you may be worried you’ll return from vacation unable to button your favorite shorts! How can you enjoy your getaway without packing on the pounds? Check out these simple strategies.

1. Get your metabolism fired up before you go. Follow a good program based on blood sugar stabilization (such as my 4-Week BLAST) so that you’re already a fat-burning machine before you leave. You’ll continue to burn while you’re gone, and you’ll be able to get back on track quickly when you return.2. Be prepared. Pack healthy, portable options like dried fruit, turkey jerky, nuts, raisins, protein powder and balanced protein bars. If you’re flying, make sure you have balanced snacks in your carry-on bag. If you have access to a cooler while you travel, pack greek yogurt, cheese sticks and fruit.3. Request a fridge in your hotel room. This makes healthy options much easier. Stop by a local grocery store when you arrive and stock up on fresh fruit, greek yogurt, cheese sticks, and even rotisserie chicken (peel off the skin and eat the white meat for great protein).4. Keep healthy snacks with you at all times. To prevent cravings and binging, eat frequent meals and snacks that have a balance of protein, fat and carbs.5. Load up on water.
