08 Oct One of the Problems with Perfectionism …
Ecclesiastes 11:4, “If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done” (LB).
One of the problems with Perfectionism is that it defeats your initiative.
Have you ever had a project you haven’t been able to get started on? You think, “One of these days I’m going to get around to it,” but you just can’t take that first step. One possible reason is perfectionism. You’re waiting for the perfect circumstance or timing, until the kids get out of school, or until a certain amount of money comes in. When you set your standards so high, perfectionism causes paralysis, and you can’t get anything done.
I see this a lot in my nutrition business. People are afraid to start, because they are afraid they can’t do it perfectly right now. “But it’s Hawkeye Football season and we love to tailgate!” “But I travel for work this month”. “But it’s my birthday next week”.
Life will always “show up”. The best thing you can do is to learn to take control of your health now, without waiting for the perfect circumstances. Learn to navigate life events, travel, and social gatherings. You may not be perfect, but you’ll be much better off than if you’d waited forever. I’m an advocate for learning a healthy system and rhythm, not necessarily putting pressure on yourself to achieve lofty goals. There’s grace in learning a system. You do the very best you can, keep getting better at it, and celebrate your progress. Soon you will develop healthy habits that last a lifetime. Go easy on yourself and know you don’t need to be perfect to WIN with your health! When things don’t go as planned, view it as a great opportunity to learn. Our health journey is a constant process of refining and pushing forward. The best time to take control of your health is now!
